Finding the Best Trailer to Fit Your Needs

Find the best trailerYou have stuff to haul. Now what?

Whether you’re a contractor who needs to transport supplies and materials to a job site or if you’re an outdoor enthusiast with toys to haul to an outdoor playground, you’ve got plenty of options when shopping for a trailer.

When selecting the best trailer to fit your needs, keep your intended plans in mind. Think about what you’re hauling – this plays a factor in one of the most significant decisions you’ll make and that’s open or enclosed trailer.

Open Utility Trailer – this is an economical choice if your items and equipment won’t be damaged in the rain or other inclement weather. A light-duty utility trailer is often what you’ll see small landscaping businesses using, for example. They can haul supplies, tools and small vehicles. Additionally, open trailers give more flexibility in hauling larger, taller or oddly shaped items.
Enclosed Cargo Trailer - if weather is an issue, an enclosed cargo trailer might be a better option. Additionally, enclosed trailers add an element of security. This is important for those carrying precious cargo – either expensive equipment or even items of sentimental value. Enclosed trailers also allow for a bit of branding, which could be a selling point if you’re plans are for commercial use.
Deck Over Trailer – these flat-bed trailers offer a wide surface for hauling larger, heavier equipment or loads. If you’ve seen a truck carrying a bed of hay, it was likely a deck-over trailer. As its name implies, the entire deck is above the wheels.
Once you figure out the best type of trailer for you – there’s more fun. You need to select a size. As in – how much trailer do you need?  Other questions you’ll need to ask yourself – and discuss with our sales experts – involve the maximum weight your vehicle can tow and where you’ll store your trailer when it’s not in use.
