Winterizing Your Trailer: A Few Tips

Trailer in snowBrrr! Things are starting to get chilly here in Pennsylvania, where we are located. If your home or business is located in an area where temperatures drop and there’s potential for snow or ice, there are a few things you’ll want to do to protect your trailer during these few months.

Clean out the trailer/detach components – if you semi-permanently store items in your trailer (for example, bins with your ATV gear), remove those and relocate them indoors. Remove any components, such as the breakaway battery.

Clean and detail the trailer – give your trailer a good cleaning, inside out. Don’t forget the underside. Sweep and scrub until it shines; be sure everything is dry when you’re done. Remove rust and seal any areas that are prone to leaking.

Store your trailer properly – you’ll want to keep your trailer out of the elements for the winter; cover it if possible or at least keep in a shady, shielded spot. Jack up your trailer to relieve tire pressure, or remove the tires.

By taking all of the right steps, your trailer will be safe as it sits dormant during this downtime. It’ll be ready for you when spring breaks!
